Ethereal female vocals set against Native drums, flutes and acoustic & electric guitars give these former double Native American Music Award nominees a Kate Bush meets Robert Mirabal indigenous rock sound.

Shouting Mountain is a polycultural group that mixes pop, rock, and funk with Native flutes, drums, and chants to create a unique indigenous rock sound known as "alter-Native". The band was discovered in 1998 by Willie Nelson when the country star aired their first CD "Summit" and their video on his Outlaw Music TV Channel. Shouting Mountain was then nominated for two Native American Music Awards after receiving radio airplay on over 250 stations internationally.

"Geomythics" (a term coined by author Anthony Roberts means earth stories) is the band's second CD. It speaks of ecological and indigenous concepts. Shouting Mountain's two main founders are Eli Bitsoe ( a full blood Navajo) on drums, percussion and vocals and Ashley ( an English/Native Alaskan/European descendant)on lead vocals and flute.

Brian Hansen, formerly of Los Angeles' Legal Weapon) recently joined them on acoustic and electric guitar. His roots go back to Siberia and Denmark.

The group tours the U.S. annually and just completed a 20 show residency for the educational outreach Young Audiences in Santa Cruz County, Arizona. Here they delighted children at public and parochial schools with an interactive show highlighting Native drumming and singing. The band also performs at festivals and Native Rights fundraisers as well as for children at Indian Nation boarding schools and recently they appeared at the U.S. Department of Defense Columbus, Ohio Base.

Because Shouting Mountain member Eli Bitsoe is a former wilderness firefighter, the Geomythics CD features a song about his experiences (Firewalker) and actual photography from fires he has fought.
